Let's call a spade a spade. Dual clutch, PDK, DSG, S-Tronic, whatever you wanna call it, it's an automatic. The 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is the first car I've ever wanted, real bad, with an automatic. Btw, the manual, according to Porsche, is "Seriously being considered for later"
Flyinglap aka Joe knows more useless car information than anybody. He owns every Car & Driver since 1986. His 11 year old son knows the difference between an E24 and E28. His 7 year old son says "gai-ar-doh" not "gah-lar-doh" .

Oh man, I hope Porsche doesn't pull that same cruel trick on it's customers Square-enix does with FF7 every year...
"Yeah, you can have a manual GT3...if we sell enough GT3s this year. Oh, that's too bad, we didn't sell enough to justify a manual, but maybe if you buy more next time..."

Lap times, that's all they're after. Faster with PDK. I don't give a shit about lap times, though....

Calling a PDK an automatic, is like calling the Mona Lisa just some painting.
Technically, it may be a bit accurate, but it is not very descriptive of the truth.
PDK does not have a torque converter, which is the SLUSH in a slush box.
A PDK has two direct-engagement clutches, just because it doesn't have an H-gate, doesn't mean it is the same as a hydraulic automatic.
It doesn't have an H-gate, because an H-gate is dramatically slower than electrons and mechanical servos. The computer being able to handle that electro-mechanical system automatically doesn't make it the same beast as hydramatic, or even Porsche's previous tiptronic.
Race cars don't keep slow tech for tradition's sake, and Porsche GT3 and GT3-RS are race cars, and PDK is markedly, consistently, significantly faster.

If track lap times aren't your focus, then Porsche Carrera GTS with a 7-speed manual gearbox would be the 911 variant you are after, is Porsche's point.

If you can put in "D", and not do anything else, the entire time, it's an automatic.
